The Jubilee of Jubilees: The Day the Universe Was Made Whole

Derek Samaras | Urantia Book Network | May 2026

Urantia has been a parentally disrupted world for a very long time. The Planetary Prince defaulted. The Adamic mission fell short. For hundreds of thousands of years this planet developed without the full parental spirit complement it was designed to receive.

May 18, AD 30 is the day that changed.

When Michael returned to Salvington and was enthroned as Master Son, and the Universe Mother Spirit publicly pledged her fidelity before the assembled hosts, a permanent parental circuit was established over this world. Ten days later at Pentecost, it went fully operational. Every willing human being on Urantia received simultaneous access to the Spirit of Truth from the Son and the Holy Spirit from the Mother Spirit, working together as a dual embrace around every soul who chooses to receive them.

For the first time in our planet's long history, we have parents. Not as doctrine. As living spirit presence.

That is what this article is about. That is what is worth celebrating on May 18.

A Day You Already Know, Reframed

Most readers of the revelation know the story of the ascension. The morontia Master on the western slope of Mount Olivet, eleven apostles standing in silence, a final charge, and then that quiet disappearance into the Thursday morning air. What Luke gives us in a few verses, the Urantia Book gives us with a timestamp: it was almost half past seven o'clock on Thursday morning, May 18, AD 30 (193:5.1). By seven forty-five he was gone from mortal sight (193:5.5).

The hour was precise. The date was recorded. And what happened in the hours and days that followed, on a sphere most of our tradition has never named, is one of the most astonishing events in the entire revelation. The hosts of Nebadon call it the Jubilee of Jubilees.

This is not a metaphor. It is not a poetic flourish. It is the technical name for a specific ceremony that took place at Salvington, the headquarters of our local universe, at the moment our Creator Son was formally enthroned as Master Son after completing his seventh and final bestowal. What we experienced as the ascension, the hosts of a hundred worlds experienced as a coronation and a homecoming. The same event. Two angles. Both ours to celebrate.

Part One: What the Word "Jubilee" Means in the Revelation

The word reaches us through Hebrew tradition, where the jubilee year was the year of release, the fiftieth year when debts were forgiven, slaves were freed, and the land returned to its original stewards. Leviticus 25 describes it as a trumpet blast across the whole country. The root idea is restoration. Something that was bound is unbound. Something that was scattered comes home.

The Urantia Book uses the word in three distinct but related ways. Reading them together is the first step toward understanding what the community of Nebadon celebrates on the anniversary of Michael's return.

The first use is personal. Every surviving mortal passes through seven jubilees on the ascension career, marking the seven great thresholds between our first decision to survive and our final entry into the Corps of the Finality (27:7.8). The second use is planetary and universal. When an entire local universe is settled in light and life, Majeston and the Reflective Spirits act together in a single unified movement of celebration, and the revelation calls this a jubilee (17:3.11). The third use is the one we are focused on here. When a Creator Son completes his seventh bestowal and takes his seat as Master Son of his universe, the hosts of that universe hold what the text calls, in a phrase used only once in the entire book, the jubilee of jubilees (33:3.5).

Three layers. Personal, planetary, and universal. The same word because the same thing is happening at different scales. Something bound becomes unbound. Something scattered comes home. The sovereignty that has been held in trust is delivered, and the one who earned it by love and lived experience takes his seat.

Part Two: The Seven Personal Jubilees

Before we climb to the top of the ladder, start with the rung under your feet. The revelation is generous with the specifics of the personal jubilees because these are the jubilees that belong to you.

A Perfector of Wisdom from Uversa, writing about the conductors of worship at Paradise, gives us the full list. I want to reproduce the passage directly because few readers have it memorized and every reader deserves to:

"The first jubilee marked the mortal agreement with the Thought Adjuster when the purpose to survive was sealed; the second was the awakening in the morontia life; the third was the fusion with the Thought Adjuster; the fourth was the awakening in Havona; the fifth celebrated the finding of the Universal Father; and the sixth jubilee was the occasion of the Paradise awakening from the final transit slumber of time. The seventh jubilee marks entrance into the mortal finaliter corps and the beginning of the eternity service." (27:7.8)

Look at that list carefully. The first jubilee is not a birth, not a baptism, not a conversion. It is a private decision. It is the moment a mortal mind, perhaps without knowing the words for what is happening, turns toward the indwelling Father fragment and seals the intention to survive. That decision happens somewhere in this life, in the flesh, for most of us probably before we have any clear cosmic framework to describe what we are doing. The hosts of heaven throw the first party the moment it happens.

The second jubilee is the morontia awakening, what most of our tradition has called the resurrection, the first breath on the first mansion world. The third is fusion with the Adjuster, the moment when you and the God within become one inseparable being. The fourth is the awakening in Havona after the long arc across the superuniverse. The fifth is the finding of the Universal Father at the center of all things. The sixth is the awakening on Paradise itself. The seventh is the entrance into the mortal finaliter corps and the start of the eternity service.

And then, almost casually, the text suggests that a finaliter who attains the seventh stage of spirit realization will probably celebrate the first of the jubilees of eternity (27:7.8). Seven jubilees to get home. And then the jubilees begin.

This matters for our subject because the universe itself moves through something like this same pattern. What a mortal does across billions of years, a Creator Son does across a universe lifetime, and at a certain point in that journey the Son completes a cycle analogous to the seventh personal jubilee. That completion is the jubilee of jubilees.

Part Three: The Structure Michael Was Climbing

To understand what was completed on May 18, AD 30, you have to understand what had been begun long before Bethlehem.

A Creator Son does not rule his universe by divine right alone. He could. The revelation is clear about this. At any moment in past local universe time, Michael could have asserted personal sovereignty as a Creator Son and ruled Nebadon after his own choosing (120:0.3). Immanuel and the associated Paradise Sons would have taken leave, and Michael would have ruled. But he chose the harder path. He aspired, as the text says, not to perfection of rule as a Creator Son but to supremacy of administration as the embodiment of the universe wisdom and the divine experience of the Supreme Being (120:0.3).

The mechanism for acquiring that supremacy is the bestowal series. Seven descents into the orders of his own creation. Seven experiences of subordinate service. On the first he submitted to the combined will of Father, Son, and Spirit. On the second to Father and Son. On the third to Father and Spirit. On the fourth to Son and Spirit. On the fifth to the Infinite Spirit alone. On the sixth to the Eternal Son alone. And on the seventh and final bestowal, the one on Urantia, to the will of the Universal Father alone (120:0.4).

The sevenfold pattern was not aesthetic. It was structural. Each bestowal earned him the right to represent a specific combination of Paradise will. By the time he stood on Mount Olivet that Thursday morning, he had earned the full sevenfold authority. He had lived it, not inherited it.

And so the Urantia bestowal, our bestowal, was the terminal act in a cosmic sequence that predates our planet by universe ages. The mother of our Creator Son's sovereignty was not the cross. It was the whole arc, and our world was chosen for the final step because our world had been wounded. Immanuel told him, before he left, that he should pour out upon the planet of his bestowal the Spirit of Truth and thus make all normal mortals on that isolated sphere immediately and fully accessible to the ministry of the segregated presence of the Paradise Father (120:2.6). That Spirit arrived at Pentecost, ten days after the ascension. The circuit was completed.

Part Four: The Morning of May 18

I want to dwell on the timing because I think most of us read past it.

"It was almost half past seven o'clock this Thursday morning, May 18, when Jesus arrived on the western slope of Mount Olivet with his eleven silent and somewhat bewildered apostles." (193:5.1)

Seven thirty in the morning. The Jerusalem air would have still been cool. From the western slope of Olivet you can see down into Gethsemane, across the Kidron, and up to the temple mount. The eleven were silent. They knew something final was at hand but not what.

He spoke to them. He told them he was about to take leave, that he would ascend to his Father, and that very soon they would send the Spirit of Truth into the world (193:5.2). And then, as the revelation puts the matter with striking plainness, when the morontia Master had thus spoken, he vanished from their sight, in no way different from his other disappearances during the forty days of his morontia career (193:5.3).

What the apostles witnessed as a vanishing, the spirit channels registered as a journey. The Master went to Edentia by way of Jerusem, where the Most Highs released him from the morontia state and returned him, through the spirit channels of ascension, to the status of Paradise sonship and supreme sovereignty on Salvington (193:5.4). It was about seven forty-five this morning, the text tells us, when the morontia Jesus disappeared from the observation of his eleven apostles to begin the ascent to the right hand of his Father, there to receive formal confirmation of his completed sovereignty of the universe of Nebadon (193:5.5).

Fifteen minutes. That is what it took, in morontia time, to cross the local universe from Mount Olivet to Salvington. And waiting at Salvington, in every sector of Nebadon and on every sphere of the local system, were hosts who had been preparing for this moment since before our planet had a name.

Part Five: The Ceremony

Here is where the revelation gives us something almost no other tradition has preserved. A Chief of Archangels, writing on the administration of the local universe, describes what happens when a Creator Son returns from his seventh bestowal:

"Upon the completion of the Creator Son’s seventh and final creature bestowal, the uncertainties of periodic isolation terminate for the Divine Minister, and the Son’s universe helper becomes forever settled in surety and control. It is at the enthronement of the Creator Son as a Master Son, at the jubilee of jubilees, that the Universe Spirit, before the assembled hosts, first makes public and universal acknowledgment of subordination to the Son, pledging fidelity and obedience. This event occurred in Nebadon at the time of Michael’s return to Salvington after the Urantian bestowal. Never before this momentous occasion did the Universe Spirit acknowledge subordination to the Universe Son, and not until after this voluntary relinquishment of power and authority by the Spirit could it be truthfully proclaimed of the Son that “all power in heaven and on earth has been committed to his hand.”" (33:3.5)

Read that carefully. The Universe Mother Spirit of Salvington, the Divine Minister, the 611,121st of her order, the one who volunteered to accompany Michael at the moment of his liberation from Paradise obligations and has co-created and co-governed Nebadon with him ever since (33:3.2), had never before this day made a public and universal acknowledgment of subordination to her co-creator. Throughout the universe ages of their joint work, she had been coordinate. She had been codirector (33:3.3). She had been the one who, when rebellion broke out, sustained the Son in every effort to stabilize government and uphold authority (33:3.4). She was never subordinate until she chose to be, at a single ceremonial moment, before the assembled hosts of the realm.

And it is only after that voluntary pledge that the ancient Matthew saying becomes universally true. Not before. After.

Then the revelation gives us the response. Michael does not receive the pledge and walk away crowned. He turns and answers it:

"After this pledge of subordination by the Creative Mother Spirit, Michael of Nebadon nobly acknowledged his eternal dependence on his Spirit companion, constituting the Spirit coruler of his universe domains and requiring all their creatures to pledge themselves in loyalty to the Spirit as they had to the Son; and there issued and went forth the final “Proclamation of Equality.”" (33:3.6)

The pledge of subordination, voluntarily given, is met with a proclamation of equality, voluntarily given back. She pledges fidelity. He constitutes her coruler. She lowers herself. He raises her up, universally and forever. The text then makes a claim that I find breathtaking every time I read it. This exchange, the Chief of Archangels says, becomes the transcendent pattern for the family organization and government of even the lowly creatures of the worlds of space. This is, in deed and in truth, the high ideal of the family and the human institution of voluntary marriage (33:3.6).

The jubilee of jubilees is not merely a coronation. It is the universe's archetypal wedding. Every good marriage on every inhabited world is a small echo of what happened at Salvington on the day our Master came home.

Part Six: Why the Mother Spirit's Acknowledgment Matters

Reread 33:3.5 and you will notice that the revelation ties her pledge to a specific phenomenon. Before that ceremony, the text says, there had been periodic isolation. After it, she becomes forever settled in surety and control.

The Divine Minister of Nebadon, for universe ages prior, had experienced seasons in which her full Paradise connection flickered. She remained competent. She remained faithful. But she was not yet, in the technical sense, settled. Her settledness had always been contingent on the outcome of her partner's bestowal series. The seventh bestowal, the Urantia bestowal, sealed it. The uncertainties of periodic isolation terminated for the Divine Minister the moment Michael completed his return (33:3.5).

This is why the acknowledgment is voluntary rather than compulsory, and why it is public rather than private. She is not conceding. She is consecrating. She is testifying, before the assembled hosts, that the covenant is complete, the work is finished, the Son has earned his throne, and she is now forever safe.

The Son's response, the Proclamation of Equality, is the seal on the same covenant. He knows what it cost her. He knows what she chose, and he answers choice with choice. The Son and the Spirit now preside over the universe much as a father and mother watch over, and minister to, their family of sons and daughters (33:3.7).

This is the cosmic home our planet rejoined on May 18.

Part Seven: What the Jubilee Unlocked for Every Human Being

Here is the material that most readers of the ascension narrative have never encountered, and it changes the meaning of May 18 completely.

A Mighty Messenger assigned to Urantia, writing on the Local Universe Mother Spirit, makes a precise technical statement about the consequences of Michael's enthronement. Before the seventh bestowal, the Divine Minister was already a divine personality, co-governing the universe, co-creating its beings, sustaining its circuits. But here is what the text says happened after:

"subsequent to the elevation of the Creator Son to the sovereign authority of a Master Son, the Creative Mother Spirit becomes so augmented in personal qualities as to be personally recognized by all contacting individuals." (34:2.1)

Before the Jubilee of Jubilees: the Mother Spirit was real but not personally recognizable at the creature contact level. After it: she is. Every being who encounters her presence can now personally recognize her as an individual. That is not a theological formality. That is a structural change to how spirit ministry reaches human souls, and it happened directly because Michael came home from Urantia and was enthroned.

She made it possible for Michael to be everywhere through the Spirit of Truth. He, by returning and being crowned, made it possible for her to be personally met rather than impersonally sensed. Each of them unlocked the other.

And that matters enormously for what happened ten days later on Pentecost.

The Triple Spirit Endowment After Pentecost

The revelation gives us something in Paper 194 that traditional Christianity has never fully mapped: a complete taxonomy of the spirit ministers that became available to every normal mortal after the bestowal of the Spirit of Truth at Pentecost.

The Midwayer Commission states it plainly:

"Since the bestowal of the Spirit of Truth, man is subject to the teaching and guidance of a threefold spirit endowment: the spirit of the Father, the Thought Adjuster; the spirit of the Son, the Spirit of Truth; the spirit of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit." (194:2.11)

Three distinct spirit presences. Three different sources. All simultaneously available to every normal, willing human being after Pentecost. The Adjuster from the Universal Father, already indwelling prepared minds before Pentecost. The Spirit of Truth from the Creator Son, newly poured out on all flesh as of Pentecost morning. And the Holy Spirit of the Divine Minister, the personal presence of the Universe Mother Spirit herself, which has been operating through the seven adjutant mind-spirits since the earliest stages of human evolution but which, after the Jubilee of Jubilees and Pentecost combined, reaches its full post-enthronement expression.

The revelation then extends this into a fuller picture of what the authors call the "sevenfold appeal of universe spirit influences" available to maturing mortals of the ascending worlds (194:2.12). Seven layers, each building on the last, from the adjutant mind-spirits of earliest human evolution through the Thought Adjuster and the Spirit of Truth, all the way to the spirit of the ascending finaliter who has fused with the Adjuster and attained Paradise. Before Pentecost, humans on Urantia were receiving a disrupted and incomplete version of this ministry because of both the Caligastia rebellion and the Adamic default (34:7.4). After Pentecost, all normal minds are, as the same Mighty Messenger says, "automatically prepared for the reception of the Thought Adjusters," because the Spirit of Truth and the Holy Spirit now work together as a unified dual-spirit liaison over every willing soul (34:5.4).

That dual-spirit liaison is described with real precision:

"The Spirit of Truth works as one with the presence of the spirit of the Divine Minister. This dual spirit liaison hovers over the worlds, seeking to teach truth and to spiritually enlighten the minds of men, to inspire the souls of the creatures of the ascending races, and to lead the peoples dwelling on the evolutionary planets ever towards their Paradise goal of divine destiny." (34:5.4)

This is the operational consequence of the Jubilee of Jubilees for every human being alive. The Son poured out his spirit. The Mother Spirit, now personally augmented by the enthronement, anchors that spirit and focuses it. Together they form a dual embrace around every willing mind on the planet. The Adjuster works from within. The dual-spirit liaison works from above and around. And all three are now, for the first time in Urantia's disrupted history, simultaneously available to any normal person who chooses to receive them.

The Mother Spirit Does Not Leave Salvington

There is one more fact here that the text wants us to hold. The Universe Mother Spirit never leaves Salvington. This is stated directly in Paper 34:

"The Universe Mother Spirit, however, never leaves the local universe headquarters world. The spirit of the Creator Son may and does function independently of the personal presence of the Son, but not so with her personal spirit. The Holy Spirit of the Divine Minister would become nonfunctional if her personal presence should be removed from Salvington." (34:4.7)

She is not traveling. She is not visiting. She is the fixed point around which everything else moves. Salvington is her permanent presence, and from that fixed point she acts as the universe focus and center of the Spirit of Truth as well as of her own Holy Spirit circuit (34:4.7). The Creator Son can be elsewhere in the universe or beyond it, and the Spirit of Truth still functions because it is anchored to her presence on Salvington.

This is why the Jubilee of Jubilees is so significant for her. She was faithful throughout every bestowal, every period of Michael's absence from Salvington. She co-governed the universe without him, literally, each time he descended into creature likeness. She never had the certainty of his permanent return. When he descended to Urantia, it was the seventh time, and she had watched the other six. She held the universe every single time. And when he came home from Urantia, the permanent covenant was sealed. He would not leave again in that way. The uncertainties of periodic isolation were over (33:3.5). He was home. And she, the one who had never left Salvington, pledged her fidelity to the one who had returned to her for the last time, and was met with equality.

The Mother Spirit on Salvington holding the circuits open while Michael walked the roads of Galilee is one of the most quietly extraordinary pictures in the entire revelation. We have not honored it enough.

Part Eight: The Third Jubilee, the Settlement in Light and Life

There is one more layer to hold before we close. The Urantia Book uses the word jubilee one other time, and it is a word we have not yet earned but can hope toward.

A Divine Counselor, writing on the Reflective Spirits, tells us that on certain special occasions all seven Reflective Spirits of a superuniverse capital act in universal unison under the direction of Majeston, as in the event of the jubilee occasioned by the settling of an entire local universe in light and life and at the times of the millennial greetings of the Seven Supreme Executives (17:3.11).

Light and life is the term the revelation uses for the final evolutionary destiny of an inhabited world, and then of a system, and then of a constellation, and then of an entire local universe. It is when the experiment is over. It is when the experiment succeeded. It is when every sphere of a local universe has evolved through the seven stages and the entire creation is settled in its permanent morontia and spiritual adjustment.

Our local universe, Nebadon, is very young. We are very young. Light and life for the whole of Nebadon is a far horizon. But the jubilee of jubilees at Salvington was the guarantee that the horizon exists. The day the Master Son took his throne and the Divine Minister voluntarily pledged her fidelity was the day our local universe became, in principle, a universe that will one day settle in light and life. The jubilee at the completion of Michael's sovereignty anticipates the jubilee at the completion of Nebadon's evolution.

Our personal jubilees, the seven that each of us will pass through on the ascent, are the ticket that lets us be present when that final universal jubilee arrives.

Three layers. All the same word. All the same thing.

Part Nine: What to Celebrate on May 18

I think about this every year when May approaches.

The day itself is not an arbitrary anniversary. The revelators were precise about the date on purpose. They wanted us to know that a Thursday morning in the spring of AD 30 was the moment our universe came of age. They wanted us to know the hour. Seven thirty for the farewell on Olivet. Seven forty-five for the vanishing. And then, in whatever translation of time applies to a morontia transit through Jerusem and Edentia, the arrival at Salvington, the assembled hosts, the Mother Spirit stepping forward, the pledge, and the Proclamation of Equality.

What do you celebrate on such a day? I think at least three things.

You celebrate the Son. Not in a hushed, distant, stained-glass way, but with the warmth of a younger brother welcoming the older brother home from the longest journey any being has ever made. He did this for us. He finished it for us. The seventh bestowal was here, on our isolated and disturbed planet, and he lifted the quarantine by living it through.

You celebrate the Mother Spirit. She has been quiet in our tradition for two thousand years. The Urantia Book puts her back at the center of the story. She volunteered. She stayed. She carried the universe with him. And on the day he came home, she stepped forward before the whole assembled host and pledged her fidelity, and he answered her pledge with equality. If you have ever longed for the divine feminine, she was never absent. She was co-creating with Michael the whole time.

You celebrate the promise. The seven personal jubilees are ahead of you. The first one, the one where you seal the intention to survive, may already be behind you. The next six are waiting. And beyond them, the universal jubilee of light and life that every surviving mortal of Nebadon will be present to witness. You are on the guest list. The ceremony on May 18, AD 30, is what made your name legible on that list.

A Closing Word

The revelation does not ask us to observe this day with any particular ritual. It asks us to know what happened. That is enough.

On Thursday morning, May 18, AD 30, our older brother kept his promise. The Universe Mother Spirit answered with hers. The hosts of a local universe, for the first and only time, celebrated a jubilee of jubilees. And somewhere deeper in than I can describe, the Father who sent him and received him back smiled on a son and a daughter who had done the work.

Two thousand years later, on another Thursday in May, we gather and we remember, and we understand a little more than we did the year before. The shadow never leads. The Son is home. The Spirit is his equal. And the seven jubilees of our own ascending lives are, one by one, already beginning.

He is risen. He is enthroned. And so, in principle, are we.
